How much does pest control cost?

The cost of pest control will change drastically depending on the company and the service you need help with. Here’s a list of the common pests we face here in the northwest and how much you might expect to pay in order to have them dealt with.

Ant elimination cost?

You wouldn’t think so, but according to Pest Defense, ants are one of the pests that homeowners encounter most often. They can be very tricky to deal with because the colonies can be large and hidden in inaccessible areas. Many times when a pest control professional needs to eliminate ants they have to use a product with a transferable effect that will kill off the entire colony. Sometimes the pest professional may need to follow up and reapply the product before the nest is completely eliminated. With that being said, the cost of ant elimination is higher than some other pests because of the cost of transferable products and the potential need for a follow up. At the time of the blog post I would expect to pay anywhere from $197 up to $397 depending on the size of infestation, company, and type of ant.

Spider Spray Cost?

Fortunately, unlike ants, spiders are much easier to get rid of. I can’t speak for all pest control companies but here at Spud Pest, spider control typically consists of the following steps:

  1. Removal of all old and new webs found around the home or area being treated. This helps the curb appeal of the home and forces spiders to walk across the product, thus dying.
  2. Treatment with a liquid insecticide of the eaves, doors, and windows of the home.
  3. Spraying of the foundation 3 feet up and 3 feet out.
  4. Treatment on the inside of the home around the doors and windows + baseboards and utility lines.
  5. Placement of glue boards to monitor spider activity going forward.

Depending on the size of the home and what company you decide to hire, a Spider Control Treatment will run about $147 to $297. Make sure whichever company you hire provides you with a full service, not just a “spray and run.” Most companies products will have a residual of 2-3 months, meaning the products will continue killing spiders and protecting your home for a little while after treatment.

Wasp Removal Cost?

There are a few different factors that come into play when determining how much wasp removal will cost. The first is the size of the nest. The bigger a nest becomes and the more wasps that begin to live there increase the difficulty of removal and decreases the pest professionals’ safety when removing it. Some wasps have the ability to let out a pheromone when it feels it is being attacked, which lets its friends know they need backup. This can lead to a large swarm of angry wasps darting toward the person attempting to remove the nest. The second factor in determining how much a nest may cost to have removed is the location of the wasp nest. For instance if the nest was 50 ft up in a tree vs hanging 5ft off the ground, removal of the higher nest would be considerably more expensive. The last factor when determining price for wasp nest removal would be the preventative treatment afterwards. At Spud Pest, we highly recommend treating the areas around your home that are conducive to wasps nests in order to prevent new ones from forming. At the time of this blog I would expect you to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $97 up to $197 to have a nest removed (depending on those factors) and the company that you hire.

Mice Extermination Cost?

Mice extermination services will also vary depending on a few key factors.

Size of the infestation

When it comes to mice extermination, more often than not, a pest control professional will need to visit the home that is being treated multiple times. The amount of times that they need to follow up is largely dependent on how large or small the infestation is. Larger infestations typically take longer to eliminate and smaller ones are faster.

Location of the infestation

Sometimes a pest control control professional determines that they need to access the crawlspace or the attic to most efficiently kill off the mice. Doing this takes extra time and extra effort but is the most reassuring way to make sure no areas of mice activity go unnoticed.

Desired services

When it comes to mice elimination there are a couple different services that can be performed. The first is just basic mice extermination, where a pest control professional eliminates the mice, ensures there is no more current activity and then is done. The second is mice extermination + exclusion. Mice exclusion simply is sealing off all the ways a mouse can enter your home. (mice can fit through a 1/4in hole) This means filling holes, replacing door seals and, potentially, window frames and other home materials.

Given all the different factors and potential problems that would need to be fixed if doing an exclusion there is no good way for us to give a price range.

Bed Bug Extermination Cost?

Bed bugs are one of the hardest pests in our area to get rid of. They are experts at playing the game of hide and seek. Bed bugs can be found in almost every crack and crevice near the place where a human spends the majority of their time.

  • Mattresses
  • Box Springs
  • Bed Frames
  • Baseboards
  • Nightstands
  • Electrical Outlets
  • And much more!

Generally speaking there are 2 ways to eliminate bed bugs. You can perform a heat treatment which is where you heat your entire home up to a minimum of 135 degrees and maintain that heat for around 6 hours. If done this will immediately kill all of the bed bugs in any life stage. The other form of treatment is a chemical treatment. This is applied to areas conducive to bed bug hiding. When bed bugs in all stages of life are sprayed directly they die within 5 minutes. Other bugs that are hiding in places that can’t be sprayed are eliminated by walking over the residual of the product.

Typically heat treatments for bed bugs are substantially more expensive. Both treatments will differ drastically depending on company, level of infestation, and size of home being treated.

Cost? The question everyone should ask before buying anything. However, the only way to compare cost is to also compare service. If something costs $1 but gets you nothing it’s not worth the $1, but if something costs you $5000 and it gets you $10,000 it’s worth every penny.

Here is why Spud Pest is worth the investment:
