Post Falls Mice Exterminators

Did you know mice are super flexible? They can squeeze through openings as tiny as 1/4 inch, about the size of a pencil, thanks to their collapsible ribcage. This makes it easy for them to slip into homes in Post Falls and hide in tight spaces. They’re also amazing climbers, able to scale walls, pipes, and even rough wood. And if that’s not impressive enough, they can jump up to 12 inches vertically and 36 inches horizontally, making it easy for them to navigate around obstacles. With all these skills, it’s no wonder they’re so tough to keep out, even if you live up by the Highlands Golf Course!

Most common mice species Spud Pest Control deals with

The House Mouse (Mus musculus) is a small, slender rodent, typically about 3 1/2 inches long with a tail of similar length. Its fur is usually a dusky gray or brownish color, and it has a slightly pointed nose, small black protruding eyes, and large ears with little hair. Adults weigh up to 1 ounce. House mice are found in a wide range of environments, from homes and farms to commercial establishments and open fields. They are highly adaptable and can thrive in both rural and urban areas.

These mice are primarily nocturnal, though they may be active during the day. They are naturally curious and will explore their entire territory, often investigating new objects. With relatively poor vision, they rely heavily on their sense of smell, taste, touch, and hearing. Their long whiskers (vibrissae) and guard hairs help them detect motion, air movement, and vibrations. Mice typically travel along walls, using their whiskers to sense their location as they move.

Mice reproduce rapidly, with a litter size that can reach up to 50 young in a year. They reach sexual maturity quickly and can begin mating at 6 to 10 weeks of age. Their young are weaned at 21 days. When it comes to diet, house mice eat a variety of foods, including seeds, grains, and sweets. They are particularly attracted to high-fat foods like lard, butter, and bacon. Over the course of a year, they nibble small amounts from various food sources, totaling about 8 pounds of food. While they mostly obtain water from the food they eat, they will drink water if it’s available.

In terms of physical abilities, house mice are incredibly adaptable. They can squeeze through gaps as small as 1/4 inch, thanks to their flexible bodies. They are also skilled climbers, able to scale rough vertical surfaces, and can jump up to 12 inches. They can even travel along horizontal wires and small ledges with ease.

However, these abilities can lead to problems for homeowners. Mice cause damage through their gnawing and nest-building activities, which can damage insulation, wiring, and even appliances. This can lead to potential short-circuits, fires, or other malfunctions. Additionally, mice contaminate food and surfaces with their urine, feces, and fur, which can lead to food poisoning.
